Laurel Canyon Rhapsody

An acid sunrise over Santa Monica hills    Charlie Manson's killing thrills Stolen dreams of something torn down    the end of Black Angel's haunting sound Where nothing makes sense or rhyme    when death and murder seem all the time Where nothing seemed what it was intended    undermining hopes for peace portended Black lineage of the dreamy ones applied     taken with drugs, sex and suicide A war no one knew was right from the start     hammered into brain and through the heart

Great write, very vivid. Unfortunately, I remember the event and those times all too real. "Where nothing makes sense or rhyme when death and murder seem all the time". I don't know when you wrote this and to me it doesn't even matter. Only our relative distant to other stars have passed and our infernal speed through the ether. In other words, everything is still the same. Take away the name and locations and this is now and probably forever, for what my opinion is worth. I feel so sad and lonely that we and I have not really progressed at all. But maybe this really represents an absolute truth, we are who we were and we cannot evolve beyond our most despicable moments nor beyond our brightest. Basically, I'm just getting too old, there are new thoughts to be thought, I just no longer am capable of thinking of them. Thanks! Very great write. I always appreciate history in the present. The darkness of this event will forever haunt those of us who were younger and couldn't understand cults as evil as these were - Sharon Tate will always be remembered in my mind - and you've penned this out with the best adjectives; structure and point on poetic lines that is as chilling as the crime itself. Wonderful write JC, blessings, Deni

Dark and haunting. This poem seems to about a period in history when there was war in south asia, and musicians like Jimmy Henrix were dying of overdoses, assassinations of dreamers like Dr King were almost commonplace. A poem for the dark side of history. This work is sad and beautiful at the same time
