WHISPERS As she sank tiredly into bed He whispered words in loving tone No, not tonight, she never said, Nor that she wanted left alone He spoke in deep and tender voice Words reaching down into her soul This was a have to, not a choice She knew this night he would control Knowing his passion would not keep And that yes must be her reply She knew this night she wouldn't sleep No matter, she thought, with a sigh But sleep was not all she would miss If she ignored his urgent plea He was much too much to resist How true he'd proven that to be Forgot the milkman's note she said. Keep that thought 'til I get it done As she slipped smoothly out of bed. Just a moment, I won't be long. The milk list took a while to write How she longed to get back to bed Instead she sat up half the night Writing the words her muse had said. 6-1-2000 by Donna Saulsman Friedrichs |
